Centering your clay on the pottery wheel is the first lesson of learning the clay wheel and, to be honest, centering clay is often a little hard, a little frustrating, requires patience, practice and a healthy sense of humour.
I always say in the first pottery wheel class you will end with a bowl, a cappuccino cup or a plate.
Likely not a master-piece but a practice piece. 😂
🤗 Be kind to yourself! You don't sit at piano and become Mozart in 1.5 hrs and it is the same with the pottery wheel!
Go easy on yourself, enjoy the process. We are here to have fun. You will need to practice just like any other new skill. 🧘
The first class is designed to set up the safety rules, measure the clay, learn how to place your arms and hands, feel the speed, handle the spinning and centering.
👩🎤👽👩🏽🦱👩🦰🧟🧕🏼🧛♀️ You may have multiple instructors throughout your pottery wheel learning! You will notice there is more than one way to throw on the pottery wheel.
There are best practices, but some people pull with a rib, some with a sponge, some with a knuckle. The important thing is to learn centering and experiment from there!
😫 Ok, someone in your class might get a good lookin' bowl on the first time and you might struggle.
When you start to learn the pottery wheel, sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't.
Some people get lucky 🍀 on the first try but everyone needs to build the skills to confidently throw on the wheel! 🥳

All the frog jars are so beautiful!! My personal favourite is frog #3 he looks so polite and dignified.
I have lots of great 4 Cats moments, however, one of my favourites was makimg mother-daughter figurines with my daughter. They are still sitting on our shelf watching the precious moments go by. We have made clay cats, bowls, holiday houses at 4 Cats and will be back for more creative bonding time together.
Frog #5 is so cute (and they are all adorable) !
My favorite 4cats moment (thus far!) was the ditto clay mother’s day activity at the beaches location. Always a great time (:
